Hole-selective self-assembled monolayers have enabled breakthroughs in the performance of perovskite optoelectronics. We show that commonly used monomeric contacts undergo thermal-induced disorder that disrupts carrier transport. We introduce a nucleophilic monolayer to construct polymeric molecular contacts in situ, producing more stable perovskite/Si tandem solar cells.

The Goldschmidt tolerance factor rationalizes A-site cation selection in halide perovskites; rubidium was long considered incompatible with lead-iodide perovskites due to its small ionic radius. Our collaborative work shows that interfacial strain stabilizes rubidium incorporation into the perovskite lattice, producing homogeneous films suitable for tandem applications.

Molecular contacts can reduce interfacial losses in solar cells but introduce stability issues arising from thermal and thermo-mechanical degradation. We show that covalently interconnecting the base layer with triphenylamine units stabilizes these contacts, enabling perovskite solar cells to meet several reliability test protocols used for silicon photovoltaics.

Formamidinium lead iodide perovskites are promising for photovoltaic applications, but water absorption induces transformation to non-photoactive phases. Our work showed that dimethyl sulfoxide, a hygroscopic solvent widely used in perovskite fabrication, exacerbates this challenge. We used a hydrophobic capping layer that blocks moisture uptake to mitigate this issue.
